The Mobile Plant Workshop, as the name suggests will serve Red Stag Sawmill in Rotorua with a brand-new facility to manage and maintain their mobile plant. The unique selling point of the building is the extreme expression of CLT throughout the building. Other than the concrete foundations and gantry crane, all the structural elements are composed of Red Stag CLT including the portal frames, columns, beams, roof, walls, and mezzanine floor. Special care was taken in the details to minimise any exposed steel connections to show off the beauty of the timber. As part of the design, Enovate undertook a prototype test to assess the effectiveness and strength of a CLT portal knee connection which showed very promising results.
