Senior Structural Engineer
Christchurch, New Zealand
The Role:
You will work closely with our directors and senior engineers, leading projects from concept through construction while contributing to the development of our team and technical capability. This role offers significant scope for professional growth within a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering staff
• Lead structural design projects from early concept to construction delivery
• Manage project budgets, resources, and programmes
• Coordinate proactively with architects, consultants, contractors, and QS teams
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers
• Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, and drawings
• Oversee detailing to ensure high‑quality, buildable solutions
• Develop structural drawing packages (foundations, slabs, steelwork, roof structures, and details)
• Build and review structural models using ETABS and other analysis tools
• Support project documentation delivery in line with programme requirements
• Maintain quality assurance and health & safety standards
About You
You are a technically strong, detail‑focused engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment. You bring:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (NZ‑recognised)
• 6–12 years of structural engineering experience in NZ or comparable markets
• Strong ETABS capability, including multi‑storey modelling and mentoring others
• Proven experience leading structural design projects and coordinating consultants
• Strong detailing skills across steel, concrete, timber, and connection design
• Experience assembling complete structural drawing packages
• Solid understanding of NZ standards, codes, and legislation
• Strong analytical, communication, and client‑facing skills
• A positive, team‑oriented attitude
• NZ residency or valid working rights
