The Rock is a renovation and extension project located on Waiheke Island. The project converts an existing restaurant with associated flat/office space into three separate tenancies. The existing roof and floor are strengthened to allow for increased loading from the future rooftop terrace and top floor office space. Updated fire ratings to separate tenancies has led to retrofitting additional structure designed to minimise demolition and avoid removing the existing cladding. Steel portal frames have been added to allow for wide open spaces and to deal with the increased seismic demands. Feature screening to the upper level has been added, cantilevered off the existing top floor deck structure to allow for privacy.
